Political prisoners in the Philippines, together with their family and supporters staged a one-day fasting to appeal for their freedom. More than 350 political prisoners are still detained in the various incarceration centers in the country, their only crime was their opposition to the government. Led by Samahan ng mga Ex-Detainee Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (Selda), Karapatan, as well as various human rights groups and people’s organizations, the fasting was participated in by political prisoners all over the country. Selda, Karapatan and the human rights groups also staged a sympathy fast for a general, unconditional and omnibus amnesty for all political prisoners in the Philippines.
